Spring Cleaning for your Body
How to build your meals to bring wellness to your body and soul.
Recently a friend asked me about how to create meals and to make those ahead of time. People are interested in healthy meals but the time and prep when you are tripping over yourself can be maddening.
I went to culinary school to learn some skills and I worked for great chefs that cooked intuitively. I learned to cook intuitively. If I get stuck I’ll close my eyes and ask “what do I need?” Sometimes I’ll hear it, sometimes I see where it is in the cabinet. We all have our thing, that’s mine.
We had a post about fruits and vegetables and the importance of a gut check so I thought I’d offer some tips for your veggies and get them to be eaten before they die in the drawer.
I have an electric citrus juicer. You can get one online for about $20-$25 that’s pretty good. With this you can buy bags of lemons and limes and juice enough for the week. Both of these juices are good for cleaning out the body. Add a splash to soups or sauces instead of salt and see how you feel about it.
Cayenne pepper is abundantly overlooked as an added spice. Just a touch can wake up a dish without extra salt.
Citrus and chili’s wake up the taste buds like salt so they are good alternatives if you need them.
Take one day and cut up multiple vegetables. Many can be sliced and ready to go during the week. Having a good sharp knife and a solid cutting board makes this task infinitely easier.
Berries last a long time in mason jars.
When you cut a pepper store it with a piece of paper towel. That will absorb the water leeching from the peppers, just remember to check every other day if you need to change time paper towels. Towel on bottom, peppers on top.
Wrap leaf lettuce in paper towels or cloth towels and celery in foil. You can chop your celery and soak it in water or cover it with damp towels. It will start to brown though wherever the knife hit it so use it up.
When storing salads I will make a few days worth but not many more. I keep a slightly damp paper towel on top of them.
It takes less than 10 seconds to peel a carrot (as far as I can see) and I think you should experiment on the taste difference between a fresh peeled organic carrot and one of the mini peeled carrots. Then you decide. Either way get some carrots in your diet regardless of how you get them there.
When you are cooking take a minute to check in with your body and see what it wants to eat. And no, ask what does it want that’s healthy if it gets stubborn like that. Meditate and listen. Feed your body what it needs and if you need help ask for guidance on that help.
You’ll be amazed what will pop up! The path to wellness in nutrition and intuition is to listen to your body. It will help you if you ask.
